"Few Realms Capture the Soul Like Polynesia"

Image
POLY means "many" and NESIA means "islands". Polynesians love their island homes and treasure their shared heritage. Writers speak of silver sands, azure lagoons, outrigger canoes, happy people mending nets, lasting friendships and enduring traditions. The whole story is too big and too vast to comprehend but we know that the hand of God played a huge part in this history, PAST, PRESENT, and FUTURE. It covers an area of 12  MILLION square miles. This O'Hana (family) is like a huge net with strong cords connecting this large polynesian family. Key representatives of the many island cultures were chosen to represent the vast area at the POLYNESIAN CULTURAL CENTER but WE happily and respectfully acknowledge the importance of other cultures NOT represented at the PCC. Joined at the heart of the PCC is Brigham Young University Hawaii. Who's mantra is "come to learn and go forth to serve". Over 2 years ago the PCC celebrated its 60th anniversary. For ove...

Bula Laie.....Good Life and Good Health...watch the old Elvis movie, Blue Hawaii, that was filmed at the PCC to see him sing this song. Drums of the Islands. A lot of it is filmed right in front of where I teach ukulele everyday on the little steam with the boat pushers. One thing is certain and that is when you are in paradise you will see familiar faces on a regular basis. Who doesn't want to come and be here in this beautiful place. She has some really tall kids all of a sudden, all beautiful and happy. Another day Casey and Jaime Beazer walked in with their boys. We talked about basketball of course. This lady found out I was from Canada and we got visiting and I found out she grew up in Raymond. She is Gertie Fairbanks's daughter and grew up around the corner from me but is older than me. What a beautiful place to be. It's mid winter and I still haven't needed to wear a jacket yet. The weather can be rainey one minute and sunny the next but it's still feels warm.  Yes, as I tell people " I bought myself a job...but it's the funnest job ever. I get to talk to and see people from all over the world on a daily basis. The best part about it is to visit with them find some common ground and try to make their day better by having a laugh with them, share music, and helping them understand how the PCC is a place of ALOHA and OHANA ( love and family) This picture is of a huge tree on Waikiki where we visited and had fun at the "Barefoot Beach Cafe " We had a last fling with Sister Kim Manley who is my roommate and departing for home soon so we needed to get in all the fun things she may have missed.
