Hawaiian Adventures and Dole Pineapple Fields

Here is a photo that we took at our munch and mingle gathering with all the current missionaries that work at the PCC. There is also another group who work with the BYUH on campus. Can you see me?

Each week at BYUH week on Tuesday there is a devotional assembly. This past week we were honored to have brother John Groberg, former seventy and Mission President, and the author of  "The Other Side of Heaven". He is now 90 years old and spoke eloquently and had amazing stories. He spoke about the attribute of "heartfelt service".
Which I was thinking a lot about this week since it was then Bruce's birthday on Friday.
BRUCE'S BIRTHDAY STORY
I promised a story about his last birthday on earth. So that was 3 years ago and it was his 73 birthday. We wanted to have some fun but there were still covid restrictions. We were living in the daycare because Keelia and Brody and kids were upstairs and and Levi and Artha were in the apartment. We had planned to the spend the whole day in Lethbridge BUT first thing on his birthday he was busy getting the daycare perfect for ME. I had mentioned that there was no back mirror and it was hard to do my hair. We had earlier purchased a new mirrored cabinet for above the bathroom sink, that he proceeded to install with some difficulty because it required cutting out drywall and finding studs because it was heavy. It wouldn't take long....it was easy...it was no trouble...famous last words. Finally done....BUT OH... next, what about those little shelves we need in the kitchen? As you all know everything was an exact science for Bruce. Lots of thinking and measuring and analyzing, RIGHT? ALL DONE.  Off to Lethbridge to have a day of fun....what was left of  it. We could not go to a restaurant because we didn't qualify with the right papers....so what to do?? Keelia knew of the dilema and was kind enough to spend time on the phone asking the right questions to find someone who ignored the restrictions and in the end we went to the KINGSMEN'S ALE HOUSE and were welcomed in with a smile and open arms. It was there that Bruce looked across the table and said to me, Joan, you do realize that I have lived 20 years longer than my Dad did, right. Was he trying to tell me something??? The eternal optimist, me, replied....don't be negative, you will live till you are 90.
He had spent his last birthday doing on earth doing "heartfelt" service. That was Bruce.

On the way home we took a little side trip at dusk to Pupkea Point because of the beautiful view. On the way in it said "gate is locked at 5" and since it was already 5:30 we IGNORED the sign. Some hikers also yelled to us...hope you don't get locked in...ignored again. We went in and hiked a bit and got some great views. When we drove back to the gate we found we were LOCKED IN. We had some food so we sat and ate. Luckily a local hiker told us we needed to dial 911 and the police would come. We all hoped that didn't mean jail time, LOL

We had food and water because we had been to costco so we were prepared at least.
The nice policeman who did not take us to jail....I do look a little wasted in the picture however...Haha!!

At our devotional Kaipo sang a Hawaiian Birthday song. It was for Creed Archibald the PCC Missions    President's birthday on the 20th which was the same day, but I am pretending it is for Bruce.
