Aug 24, 2024 Grandpa Hickens 105 Birthday First Visitors to Paradise, Zoe and Hazel Stone Zoe and Hazel arrived late Saturday night and went straight to their little rented space in Kahuku. On Sunday after church we went exploring around campus and met the Hawkins family from Utah dropping their daughter here also. Hazel now has a friend...LOL. We then went to the "point" which from the pictures you can see that the ocean is extra turbulent and exciting because of the pending hurricane just off the big island...perfect timing for a holiday in Hawaii, Right?? It was actually very beautiful and the huge waves and water kept splashing up and you could smell and taste the salty water that crashed all around us making everything damp and cool. People thought it was so windy but for us it was just like a normal windy day in southern Alberta.....minus the salty wetness. These pictures were taken by Ava, another new friend for Hazel, now she has 2, but who's counting, who was als...

My Group at the MISSION SETTLEMENT

Image
Hella, Carol, Brent ( Jacque's husband) Julie, Lanea, Joan, Ihilani, Jacque, David and Gina Wayt        This is the group I mainly work with every day. We have a lot of fun. Jacque Lee and Julie Larsen, both sang with the tabernacle choir, so when it's not busy we stand around and sing fun songs with lots of harmony. Hella, a German born lady on the far left, who will be 89 Sept. 5, is probably one of, if not the oldest serving missionary in the church. The mission president said they prayed and deliberated for months about whether to call her or not. She is our quilter. She sits and does Hawaiian quilting and explains it all to people when they come in. She is very energetic and wants it ALL done properly...everything in whole store. She also keeps us supplied with homemade cookies.  There are usually about 5 of us rotating between the cash register and teaching the Ukulele lessons. We have people daily from all over the world. I am always surprised at t...

There is BEAUTY all around. .....OHANA

This was part of our training  So every day this is part of our job here at the PCC. When you read it it could actually be a theme of each of us as we go about our lives. If we radiate the spirit of love, desire to learn, WOW people around us by doing more than is expected, cultivate trust, and honor our legacy!! I think it's pretty interesting that our FAMILY CHAT is called HARKER OHANA. Almost a prophecy that someday I would be here where the whole place is about OHANA. Interestingly, The HUKI show on the river daily and the HA, BREATH OF LIFE show are about children, parents and families. In a world that is trying to minimize its importance, the PCC has it front and center. What a great place to showcase that truth. These are some picture I took as we left our little shop 2 nights ago. Just another day in paradise!!! Its an amazing place to be everyday just beside the water under a little lani playing the ukulele with people from all over the world. There was a family from Mongo...

I'm Finally Here

This is where I go to the spot I work at ....BEAUTIFUL!!                                    It's been a pretty hectic week! Ivory Zoe and Keelia dropped me off at the Kalispell airport after we spent a night at Bronson and Caseys house on Lake Blaine. It was fun to get to see them all and give them a hug goodbye. The plane ride was great....I had Tina's neck pillow that saved me from a big pain in my neck from trying to sleep and relax on the plane so that was good. Elder and Sister Gotes picked me up in Honolulu and we headed to Laie. I am in an apartment with Peggy Arsenault from Idaho and Jenny Perry from Australia. I knew immediately that it was all going to be great with them. The next day my "guides" were Brother and Sister Thompson from St. George. They were so awesome. They drove me everywhere and toured the whole area showing me everything. Then came meeting so many different people that I...
