The End is Nigh at hand...

Image
At our Munch and Mingle we said Aloha to 4 great missionaries who will be dearly missed and remembered for all their work and dedication. Shelley Peterson served in the sewing department and in costumes for the Ha Breath of Life show, which equaled a lot of back aches and hard work. I could NOT have served there...THANKS SHELLEY. Kerry and Jerry Raindson who were the physical facility coordinators, which means caring for all the missionaries housing needs. They were at our apartment several times fixing air conditioning and broken taps etc. Great people. Then Julie Larsen who has been my BFF sidekick since I got hear. We both teach ukulele lessons at the settlement and had the same schedule so she was my RIDE whenever and wherever. We are also part of the SETTLEMENT SISTERS singing group which I was so fortunate to be part of with Jacque Lee and Margaret Penfield. We started off singing as we waited to teach lessons and discovered we all sang harmony and our voices complimented each ot...

The Adventure Never Stops

Image
This was our final stop before Julie went home. One last sing along and pictures. Rick and Jolene Gilbert who moved here permanently and live down the road in Haula, are service missionaries with us at the Settlement. They are so kind and generous and had a going away party for Julie at their house. We had good food and lots of fun visiting and reminiscing about how we love to serve here.        Also the LADIES had a big get together when we all went to the final "Downton Abbey " movie. We "Lunched and Laughed". It was Shelley and Julie's last bit of fun before leaving.

Happy 90th to Hella Brunnen, Quilting Queen

Image
This beautiful quilt was designed by Julie Larsen, roosters with the tails looking like pineapples. On Friday September the 5, 2025 we celebrated Hella Lunnens 90th birthday together . She was thrilled as we paid tribute to her as one of the oldest serving missionaries in the world. The settlement gang sang " Whatever Hella Wants" and she loved it and laughed so hard. Her daughter and husband surprised her when they arrived at the party from Kansas. I made Hella a book of her mission and all her quilting efforts and surprised her with a copy at the party.                These ladies sang a Hawaiian tribute song for their beloved Hella for her birthday  The beautiful chicken quilt that Julie designed and Hella brought to life. Serving with a smile. She is an in charge kinda gal...whatever  Hella wants...Hella gets!!!! I have never seen anyone give more and work harder than Hella. She is always the first one here w...

Gathering Happening HERE

Image
Hazel is back. Summer just zipped by and I picked Hazel up from the airport and we had Sunday Dinner together courtesy of my roomates who got it all ready for us when we arrived back in Laie. She is ready for another year at BYUH. Its an amazing place with such diversity and kind and wise students just like her.                           Joan, Julie, Marrae Brunner (newby at the Settlement) and Margaret Penfield We love going to watch the sunset at Turtle Bay Resort. We picked up some food to eat along the way at the food trucks in Kahuku and went into the resort like tourists who belonged there, and had a nice view of the sunset. We do this often but it never gets old. Nature and the beauty of the earth that God has made for us never disappoints with all the amazing colors of the sky, sun and clouds with forms that are always changing and making magnificent and breathtaking beauty.           ...

Summer is busy and great at the PCC

Image
This is where I am every day on the beautiful Lagoon right outside where we teach at the PCC. This is  the dress they custom made for me when I first came here. I wear this dress on the days that I volunteer to help at the "Aloha or Ohana Luaus" or the "Ask Me " Stations.  This is our new beautiful spot where we like to eat lunch if we can. Usually around 3 in the afternoon. My street and Mailbox while in Laie, we were know are the "Turtle House" thus small turtle on mailbox Thought I should get a shot of where I live, for future reference.  It's been a great experience with great room mates. Shelley Petersen, Sharla Behan and Sheri Sauve and we are having fun together. Someone told me that the hardest part of being a single senior missionary was getting along with people you live with and work with. But I think I have been VERY fortunate in that way. We met Kaleo's daughter Maka and husband Kaleo Kahawaii again this year at the "Huki Pull...
